Why is my scanner not scanning well?

The performance issues with a Medit scanner not scanning well could be attributed to various factors. Here are some common reasons and potential solutions:

Calibration Issues

If the scanner is not calibrated (based on reminder), it might lead to inaccurate scans. Ensure that the scanner is properly calibrated according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Dirty Optics

Dust, debris, or smudges on the scanner’s mirror can hinder scan quality. Clean the optical components carefully using alcohol and dry.

⚠️ DO NOT USE Cavicide as it will eat away the plastic and potentially break the unit.

Software Updates

Outdated Windows, or software might cause issues. Ensure that you’re using the latest version of the Medit Link software and Windows is completely updated.

External Factors

Direct light interference can affect scan quality as the scanner uses light to capture scan data. Make sure you’re scanning in a controlled environment with proper lighting conditions by avoiding direct light. Operatory light is poses no issues.

Scan Object Preparation

The object being scanned should be properly prepared according to the guidelines. Reflective surfaces, excess saliva, or blood may pose challenges during scanning. It is recommended to use an air syringe or suction to dry wet areas, and use scan sprays on reflective surfaces to dull the reflectiveness.

User Technique

The scanning process requires a certain level of skill and technique. Familiarize yourself with the recommended scanning procedure and practice to improve your technique.

Driver Issues

Ensure that the graphics card driver, USB driver, and chipset driver are installed correctly and are up to date. If you need assistance with updating the drivers, please contact our digital dentistry specialists.

Physical Damage

Any physical damage to the scanner could lead to scanning issues. Inspect the scanner for any visible damage.
